-If you are wondering why it says "Millie"...that's what I go by at work because...there are two of us [Talia] in the office. It got really confusing so, I go by Millie. Weird I know but it works. The other Talia is awesome and we have become really great friends [So no bashing ;)].

{DIY Paint Chip Lampshade}
Remember when I posted about getting a lamp and shade at the thrift store for 2.97 each?
I FINISHED THE PROJECT! Yes.
Here's the process if you want to do it too!
1. Tools you need:
A circle cutter
A lot of people have fancy one for scrapbooking
Obviously mine is a CAR. It's from Walmart and for kids. $4.00
Most people have these but if you don't the hot glue gun is about $2-3 at Hobby Lobby
2. You need to get [steal? nah] paint chips. I got mine from Walmart.
3. Cut out your circles
4. Glue your circles in a row
5. Glue your rows on the lampshade
6. FINISHED!!!
You can see through the paper when the light is on but I think it gives it a cool effect.

What I've been up to this week.
I found this drink on Pinterest and wanted to make it. It said that it was a detoxing drink and was refreshing. I just happened to have all the ingredients to make it! From here. Anyways... I hated it. I gagged every time I drank it. I couldn't even try and down it. I used mint leaves and not spearmint...so maybe that's it? I don't know.
You make it and let me know :)
Last week I made cilantro lime chicken tacos. I had an empty salsa jar and told Robert not to throw it away. So I had to think of something to do with it. This is what I came up with.
I painted the top with grey chalkboard paint... then put cotton swabs in it! I love how it turned out.
Also, that cute little birdy tube. That's my toilet paper holder I made a while back. It's from an Old Fashioned Oats containter. It fits toilet paper perfectly. I just cover it with cute paper but fabric might work better. My paper didn't go all the way around so the back has ugly cut up pink paper covering the rest [I just hide it:)]
My thrift finds yesterday! Each of them were $2.97. Left: adorable old vintage lame. Right: 3 tier plate display [for like desserts or condiments]. Front: A lamp shade that I ripped apart so I came make this. To come later!

INGRID MICHAELSON!!!
Ingrid Michaelson.[!!!!].. you know those tickets Robert got us for our anniversary.
Drove to Des Moines and
started the evening off with Zombie Burger+Drink Lab
Robert's was called, Undead Elvis. His consisted of beef + peanut butter + fried banana + bacon + american cheese + EGG + mayo. |
We also had fries (they were so good). They had
a fry sauce with them... and yes you people from out west... it was
like fry sauce but had a spicy kick to it. It was so good.
The place was a fun place to experience but I don't think it would be my favorite place to go all the time. [I would probably die]
Then....INGRID!!!
This is where are concert was! |
Awaiting the festivities |
Greg Laswell |
Look at this crowd! |
We thought this is when they were going to play our song, but they didn't, they played a song THEY WROTE! Called, You See the Light in Me. It is sooo cute. I recorded it but we ran out of memory. |
Beauty right?! |
She is just so cute! |
The last song of the concert was You and I, our wedding song!! We stood on the side of the stage and danced :)
Then we were off to the hotel! Robert was a sweetheart and booked us a hotel... but he got a hotel in Colfax, IA. It happened to be 30 minutes east of Des Moines. It was funny. The town consisted of the Colfax Inn, Mc Donalds, and a pizza place. So we checked into our hotel that smelled like body odor. We got used to it. [hahaha]
Walked over to Mc Donalds and got an ice cream cone. Then I decided I ate way too much and ran back to the hotel. Twas good.
We finished the trip off by looking at apartments in Ames, seeing Sami, and I had a job interview.
When we got back, we awaited Amy and Garth to arrive at our apartment to have them spend the weekend with us. [really we only saw them for a cumulative of about 2 hours, it was till good]
WEEKEND WAS GREAT!!!

Jobs That Rock
For the month of June I had an interpreting job!! I interpreted for summer school and today was the last day. I'm really sad because I LOVED my job. These past three weeks I had access to the school's library! It rocked! Here are the books I read in June:
The Maze Runner series was like a syfy fantasy book. It had me hooked and I needed to know what was going to happen and was trying to figure the book out the whole time. I recommend it. Some parts got a little dry, but I still couldn't put it down.
Dark Life is a really easy fast read, but it's also really interesting and I read it in two days. It has a second book called, Rip Tide. My public library doesn't have it (but my school did, sad face) so I need to use my in-law's library... hopefully they let me use their card cause I can't wait to read the 2nd book.
I must throw a shout-out for Delirium by Lauren Oliver because I love that book (and the 2nd one. The 3rd comes out in Feb) and want everyone to read it, because I want it to become a movie. GO READ YA'LL!

One Year Anniversary
Our One Year was all planned by Robert.
He rocked it.
I always say I'm so lucky to have him, in which he says, "No, not lucky, blessed. WE are blessed."
He told me the night before that I couldn't wear a dress or skirt. (Horseback riding?! nope.)
The night started with exchanging of gifts.
I got Robert a pair of Heelys (He loved them)
Robert got me/us tickets to go see Ingrid Michaelson (my favorite singer/singer of our wedding song) in Des Moines with a hotel room to stay at after :) :) :) :)
Next: Stella's. So yummy with sweet potato fries
Then to the park to fly kites! The wind wasn't cooperating so we lay on the blanket.
Then we went to Nobbies. We went there on our first date.. we bought poppers/snaps and threw them out our car window at people in the Old Market.
At the Old Market we went to listen to our "Dollar Concert" but all the corner people weren't good so we watch some card tricks then.... went on a horse drawn carriage. We felt bad for Hubby the horse.
NEXT: BRAVE!! This movie was so great and I adored it.
Last, and BEST.
Rosenblatt Stadium.
Sparkling grape juice, songs from Robert, sitting on the dug out, dancing to our wedding song, pretending we are watching a baseball game (our team lost), not getting caught.
Mending the fence. |
And when we arrived home, this is what was on our stairs.
Thanks Mom and Dad Van Haaften! |
This night was one of the best, perfect way to celebrate one year of marriage. I am blessed that I get to be sealed to my best friend for time and all eternity.
We get to act like kids every day with adventures and giggles.
Forever. Magical. Realistic.
